RVA Terms & Conditions of Membership
(Effective from 1 April 2025)
The Retirement Villages Association of New Zealand (RVA) represents the interests of New Zealand’s retirement village operators, developers, and sector partners.
By applying for and maintaining RVA membership, you agree to the following terms and conditions.
For details on member accreditation and compliance requirements, see the RVA Standards of the Association.
1. Membership Types
RVA offers two categories of membership:
- Village Membership – for organisations that own, operate, or are developing a registered retirement village.
- Associate Membership – for individuals or organisations that provide goods, services, or support to the retirement village industry, but do not operate a village.
2. Membership Period
Membership runs from 1 April to 31 March each year.
Renewal notices are issued annually, and membership continues automatically unless cancelled in accordance with Clause 6 below.
New members joining part-way through the year will have their fees pro-rated for the remaining months of the membership year.
3. Membership Fees
- Membership fees are reviewed annually and approved by the RVA Executive Committee.
- Invoices are issued once the membership application is approved, and payment is required before membership benefits commence.
- All fees are quoted exclusive of GST.
Members with multiple villages under common ownership or management pay only one base fee; dwelling numbers are combined to calculate the unit fee.
4. Standards and Compliance
All Village Members agree to comply with:
- The Retirement Villages Act 2003, its Regulations, and the Retirement Villages Code of Practice (as amended from time to time); and
- The RVA Standards of the Association, which set out additional best-practice requirements for all RVA member villages.
RVA member villages are subject to regular accreditation audits conducted by RVA-approved agencies.
Non-compliance may result in suspension or termination of membership at the discretion of the Executive Committee.
5. Approval of Membership Applications
All membership applications (Village and Associate) are reviewed by the RVA Executive Committee.
Membership becomes active once approval is confirmed and payment has been received in full.
The RVA reserves the right to decline or defer applications that do not meet membership criteria or require further information.
6. Renewal and Cancellation
Membership renews automatically on 1 April each year unless written notice of cancellation is received by 31 March of that year.
Members may resign at any time by providing written notice to the RVA prior to the membership renewal.
Membership fees are non-refundable once the renewal year has commenced.
Any outstanding invoices must be settled before a resignation is accepted.
7. Overdue Accounts
Payment is due by the date stated on the invoice.
If an account becomes overdue, the RVA may suspend membership benefits until payment is received.
The RVA reserves the right to recover any reasonable costs associated with debt collection, including administrative and legal fees.
8. Use of RVA Name and Logo
Only current RVA members may refer to themselves as members of the Retirement Villages Association of New Zealand or display the RVA logo.
Use of the logo must comply with RVA brand guidelines and cease immediately upon resignation or termination of membership.
9. Privacy and Communications
By joining the RVA, you consent to receive communications relevant to your membership, including newsletters, event invitations, and policy updates.
The RVA will manage all member information in accordance with the Privacy Act 2020 and our internal Privacy Policy.
10. Amendments to Terms
The RVA may amend these Terms & Conditions from time to time.
Updated terms will be published on the RVA website and notified to members in writing.
Continued membership following notification constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
